Introduction - Fireblade 2003 |
|
This
is where Honda’s Fireblade has always excelled: total
control through a total balance of all factors from
impressive power delivery to the lightest weight
possible. Smooth handling as well as comfort for rider
and pillion make the FireBlade a well-rounded,
customer-oriented bike that feels equally good on the
circuit as in traffic. Marking the beginning of its
second decade, the new FireBlade has an even more
aggressive design and is even more responsive thanks to
numerous new items in its engine, frame, chassis and
electrics. The result is a genuine top runner that aims
to be the best in everything for
everybody. |

All-New
Styling for Sharper and Lighter
Performance
From
its aggressively angled new front cowl, highlighted by a
stunning new triple-beam multi-reflector headlight, to
its slim new seat cowl, which terminates in a sharp, new
dual-array LED taillight, the new Fireblade’s bodywork
is just as breathtaking to look at as its blistering
Super Sport performance is a blast to enjoy.
The
new ’Blade’s lighter, sleeker, and more aggressive look
is further emphasised by a new ‘hugger’ fender that
follows the curve of the rear tyre to open up a wide
space under the slim new seat cowl.
Fully
Adjustable 43mm Inverted Front Fork
The
FireBlade’s massive inverted front fork stanchion tubes
carry wide-diameter 43mm H.M.A.S (Honda Multi-Action
System) cartridge-type sliders that offer superbly
responsive feel as well as full adjustability to match
virtually all riding conditions. While realising greatly
reduced unsprung weight, they also provide a comfortable
and confident ride over a broad range of variable road
surfaces. |

Engine |
|
Competition
Class 4 Piston Calliper Front Disc
Brakes
The
Fireblade’s high-performance four-piston front brake
callipers grip lightweight, wide-diameter 330mm floating
rotors between sintered metal pads for strong,
responsive braking control anytime and anywhere. At the
rear, a compact dual-piston calliper provides an assured
balance of braking control.
Fire
Breathing, Fuel-Injected Inline 4
Powerplant
The
FireBlade’s famed, high-powered DOHC inline-4 engine now
features a 1mm larger bore for a 25cc increase in
displacement to 954cc, lighter weight pistons and
detailed modifications for reduced weight and internal
friction, and a corresponding big boost in power and
response.
Its 2nd generation PGM-FI
computer-controlled fuel injection system features
larger throttle bodies, new injectors and newly
programmed control maps for faster, more accurate
throttle response. |

Features & Benefits |
|
New,
Lightweight All-Titanium Exhaust System
With its built-in Honda
Titanium Exhaust Valve (HTEV) maintaining sharp
performance throughout the engine’s rev range, the
FireBlade’s lightweight titanium exhaust system features
a new, ultra-lightweight titanium silencer for both the
look and feel of top performance. The German-spec
version also features an inline catalyser element to
double the ’Blade’s efforts to protect the environment
by further minimising harmful exhaust
emissions.
Refined
Aluminium Twin-Spar Frame
The Fireblade’s
lightweight and rigid aluminium twin-spar frame takes
another step in the direction of ‘Total Control’ with
detailed refinements like new steering head and rear
plate castings that ensure fully optimised torsional
rigidity and a more broadly useable range of handling
and performance.
A new, slimmer seat rail design
further emphasises the ’Blade’s sharper performance with
a lighter, slimmer look and feel.
New
HRC-Developed Press-Forged Aluminium
Swingarm
With its gigantic
right-side press-forging and highly rigid,
‘Yagura’-reinforced left-side extrusion mated to a large
central casting for astounding strength, the FireBlade’s
impressive new aluminium swingarm delivers a full-bore
racing-class balance of control while being fully 300g
lighter than the swingarm it replaces.
Its
progressive Pro-Link suspension system features a new
‘in-frame’ upper damper mounting that facilitates ride
height adjustments, while the lower casting of its
‘Semi-Pivotless’ swingarm mounting has been modified for
enhanced torsional rigidity and even more effective
control.
Lighter
Weight New Wheels Mount
Wide,
Low-Profile Radial Tyres
Even the FireBlade’s
wheels have been modified for lighter weight, with more
compact hubs and narrower hollow-section triple-spokes
making a significant contribution to reduced unsprung
weight. Both mount high-performance, low-profile
‘ZR’-rated radial tyres for the best grip and control
this side of the circuit.
More
Aggressive Riding Position
The Fireblade’s stunning
new design isn’t for looks alone. Its lighter, sharper
curves also realise a leaner, meaner, more aggressive
riding feel, with even the fuel tank setting farther
down in the frame to take 10mm off its height and length
that helps realise greater positioning freedom and more
responsive control.
H.I.S.S
Helps Keep Your FireBlade Safe and Sound
It’s
certainly no fun finding your pride and joy gone without
you. Honda helps protect your investment with its
effective Honda Ignition Security System, which
completely disables the bike’s ignition and won’t let
the engine be started by any other than its two original
programmed keys…ever. A blinking LED on the instrument
panel warns potential joyriders and thieves to look
elsewhere. A special carrier built in under the locking
pop-up pillion pad lets you carry a U-lock for added
security. |
